The newest Google Earth seems to be broken, so the fix is to install older version and hold that version. Not sure if lsb-core is required, but it might good to install before installing Google Earth.

apt install lsb-core

Remove unworkable Google earth

apt purge google-earth-pro-stable

Install the workable Google earth.

After installing Google Earth, hold the workable version.

sudo apt-mark hold google-earth-pro-stable
